By the time I have more than two dwarves in the firing line, I usually have more than enough quivers to go around. You may be required to use one now, but I'm not sure. Your dwarves might get confused and opt for the "whack 'em with the bow" method instead.Īnd if all that doesn't work, make sure everyone has a quiver. Your hunters and your military don't seem to share ammunition, so make sure when you're choosing which types of ammunition each group uses the two don't overlap. (NOTE: This one took me a while to realize, and might be your problem.) It's easiest to set up two separate stockpiles for each ammo type, with your training ammo in the archery target room and your combat ammo closer to the fort entrance. I try to use wooden and bone bolts for training, and save the metal bolts for combat. To continue from there, you need to designate when each ammunition type should be used using the capital C and capital T keys. You can set the material with a capital M*. Maybe you need to set your ammunition supplies? Check in your military page using the m-f commands, and make sure to add all the ammunition you can. You technically only need the "T", but I haven't come across any major problems leaving I and Q in there.Īre your archers equipped correctly? Each of the targets is designated with the archery squad and the "TIQ" commands, leaving the "Z" for a barracks somewhere else. Trying to think of what else it could be. The only dwarves that go in the archery room are the archers themselves (and the poor souls who get to reclaim the fallen arrows from below). I keep two spaces in between each archery target so each "lane" is three squares wide, if that could be one possible reason. However, so far, my attempts at turning the different suggestions posted on this subreddit once in a while (with quite a few differing opinions between them all, I might add) have been woefully unsuccessful. Personally, I'm at that point right now that when I use danger rooms, the "fighting" challenge of the game seems somewhat gone, so I am trying to rid myself of the habit. The Dwarffortresswiki entry for Military Training is somewhat lacking I feel, at least in that it does not contain much information on recent theories on how to maximize sparring time, and thus minimize training time required.
